History of the department

Department of “Water Resources, Land Use, and Agricultural Engineering”

 

The department was established in 2007 as part of the “Agro-Industrial” faculty under the name “Water Resources and Land Use.” In the 2011-2012 academic year, the department was divided into two: “Water Resources and Water Use” and “Land Management, Cadastre, and Agricultural Engineering.”

From 2007 to 2012, the head of the “Water Resources and Land Use” department was Doctor of Technical Sciences Yeleu Muratuly Nauryzbayev, while from 2011 to 2013, the head of the “Cadastre, Land Management, and Agricultural Engineering” department was Candidate of Technical Sciences Zhumadilla Aldiyarov.

In the 2013-2014 academic year, the “Water Resources and Water Use” and “Cadastre, Land Management, and Agricultural Engineering” departments were merged to form the “Water Resources, Land Use, and Agricultural Engineering” department. From 2013 to 2016, the department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Gulmira Sovetovna Kenzhibaeva. From 2016 to 2017, the department was led by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Kenzhemirza Baimakhanov.

From 2017 to 2024, the department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Parida Synabaevna Sultanbekova. Currently, the department is headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Gulmira Duisenbaevna Kenzhalieva.

The department offers training for specialists under the credit-based system in the following educational programs:

  • 5B080500 – Water Resources and Water Use
  • 5B080600 – Agricultural Engineering and Technology
  • 5B090300 – Land Management
  • 5B090700 – Cadastre

 

The department employs 24 faculty members, including 1 Doctor of Technical Sciences, 6 Candidates of Technical Sciences, 4 senior lecturers, 6 master’s degree holders, 3 lecturers, and 4 educational support staff.

The department conducts research on key issues funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as other state bodies and international organizations. Key research topics include:

  • Development of a universal multifunctional attachment for farmers (UMNO-4/1) — project leader Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor N.T. Manabayev, with funding of 3 million tenge.
  • Organization of production of a low-capacity trailer (2PTSХ-10-45) for transporting cotton products — project leader B. Kalymbetov, with funding of 240 million tenge.
  • Intensive development of vegetable production on open fields with three harvests per year — project leader B. Kalymbetov, with funding of 147 million tenge.

The department has over 10 years of experience in training highly qualified specialists, integrating modern educational technologies, and contributing to strategic development.

The faculty of the department has published more than 20 textbooks and study guides, prepared over 30 methodological guidelines, obtained 3 preliminary and innovative patents, and published over 150 scientific articles.

The department has close ties with enterprises, such as the “Kaynar Bulak” agro-industrial complex, RSE “Kazvodkhoz,” RSE “Kazvodkhoz” South Water Supply Branch, RSE “South Kazakhstan Hydrogeological-Meliorative Expedition,” and others.

The department maintains academic cooperation with Moscow State University of Environmental Engineering, the Kyrgyz Agrarian Academy, and the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration.
